Christmas Tree Varieties

Christmas Tree Farm, Hawkwell has the biggest choice of trees available in Essex, with numerous sizes on sale and growing from 1ft to 20ft (1m to 6m). We continue to develop new varieties and will have more than 10 tree types for sale this year. The farm also sells a huge range of attractive water holding tree stands, from traditional wrought iron designs to the latest water holding stands from the USA. You will also find hand made holly wreaths, mistletoe and a large display of authentic Christmas decorations.

We will have numerous varieties on sale and growing at the farm that include varieties of Fir, Spruce and Pine. Most have excellent needle retention and a sweet scent that will fill the room and make them the ideal tree to decorate and admire.

Nordmann Fir Abies Nordmannia

The Nordman Fir is the "King" of Christmas Trees and originated from the Caucus mountains in Russia. It has stunning foliage, beautiful shape and excellent needle retention. It is no wonder this is the most popular tree on the market. Its soft and bushy scented branches make the Nordman Fir the ideal tree to decorate and admire.

Norway Spruce Picea Abies

The Norway Spruce is the traditional Christmas tree as introduced to England by Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria, in the early nineteenth century. Today Norway Spruce is still a very popular tree with strong scented needles and a bushy pyramidal shape.

Noble Fir Abies Procera

The Noble Fir is absolutely superb. Dense green needles with a slightly blue hue create a very bushy, majestic no needle drop tree with a wonderful scent.

Scots Pine Pinus Sylvestris

A popular tree with large, blue needles. It can be very dense when sheared, perhaps the best tree for needle retention.

Blue Spruce Picea Pungens Glauca

Needles - can be an attractive silver blue. Reasonable needle retention, though they can be very sharp, not so good with young children or pets in the house.

Douglas Fir Pseudotsuga menziesii

One of the most popular American trees but now gaining a following in the UK due to its good needle retention and wonderful citrus fragrance.

Fraser Fir Abies Fraseri

A newer variety of non-needle drop Christmas tree with an excellent and more feathery appearance than the Nordmann Fir and great fragrance.

As well as these, we also grow:

Corsican Pine – Similar to Scots Pine
Balsalm Fir – Similar to Fraser Fir with a citrus fragrance
Austrian Pine – Similar to Scots Pine but with longer softer needles
Concolour – Good needle retention, long soft needles, citrus smell and blue silvery colour.
